Read the guide →Covering 5,800 km² across Romania and Ukraine, the Danube Delta is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the world's great wetlands. It supports over 360 bird species — including the globally vulnerable Dalmatian Pelican, White-tailed Eagle, and globally significant waterbird populations on the Via Pontica Flyway.
The delta is built from three river arms — Sulina, Chilia, and Sfântu Gheorghe — each flanked by thousands of kilometres of channels, reed beds, open lakes, and floating islands (plauri) unique to this ecosystem. Access to the core zones is by small motorboat only, typically after an overnight stay — which is why a live-aboard floating hotel gives unrivalled access compared to a day trip from Tulcea.

May–June is peak season — breeding activity at maximum, pelican colonies active. September–October brings spectacular autumn migration. July–August is warm with large pelican concentrations. Yes — Romania has one of the largest brown bear populations in the EU, with several thousand individuals recorded in national conservation plans in the Carpathians. Our hides are Romsilva-licensed and achieve a up to 95% encounter rate during peak season, depending on weather conditions. Bears arrive reliably at dusk during our 3–4 hour evening sessions.

Extraordinary!!! I had travelled with a number of companies and cruises This is one of the best experiences in my travel history We travelled for 5 days in delta Dunării and I have only superlatives for everything The cabins are small but the bathroom has good shower pressure and we were there only to sleep Daniel ( Dani) the guide owner and facumtotum is the best , knowledgeable about all realtors to flora and fauna of delta Dunării about the sea the wind and knows 6 languages The food was better and more refined then in the best ocean cruises , the staff more then friendly and careful We sleep and travel on floating barge and then with a smaller boat during smaller canals and lakes Have seen lots of birds eagles, hawks, pelicans and many many more and Dani identified all and had stories about . It was an unexpectedly amazing experience! The service, the food, the friendly staff and atmosphere And, foremost , the 'captain', guide and instructor: Daniel (Dani) : not only did he take us to wonderful places, shown us birds and plants we had only seen in movies, but he brought us together and took care of us I am not sure how many of the Latin names we'll remember, but I am sure we will not soon forget the warmth of the hosting; Lily's food, Roxana's table arrangements and her smiles, Geta's hospitality- all added to the beauty and richness of the landscape Thanks to all of you at Ibis Tours!
We did a 10 day birds and bears tour. The wildlife and the Danube Delta were fantastic and seeing them made so much better by the expertise of Daniel our guide. The mountains weren't bad either - bears brilliant. The accommodation was really good - especially the floating hotel which was unique in our experience. Food was great and special mention to the floating hotel staff who made every meal an experience. The transport arrangements were good and worked well. If you like wildlife - especially birds - and want to try something different we'd thoroughly recommend this tour
We had a great trip with Ibis tours. The floating hotel allowed us to explore the huge Danube Delta including the wee channels and lakes. The wildlife there was incredible and we saw countless bird species such as white tail eagles, hobby, pelicans, purple herons, ospreys…..the list is endless. Our guide Florin is not only a very knowledgeable bird expert but also with great knowledge about geography, ecology and history of Romania. The food provided was amazing and the staff were very helpful. We had a wonderful trip.
