Our Story
Ibis Tours was founded in 1995 by a team of Romanian naturalists who shared a conviction: the Danube Delta, one of Europe's last great wild places, deserved to be shown to the world — but shown carefully, by people who understood it deeply.
Thirty years later, that conviction has not changed. We operate from our base in Tulcea, at the gateway to the delta, and we run wildlife tours from our 4-star floating hotel — a state of the art vessel, sustained from solar energy. Our guides have decades of field experience. Our groups are small. Our approach is unhurried.
We work across Romania's two greatest wildlife habitats: the Danube Delta UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the Carpathian Mountains, home to Europe's largest brown bear population outside Russia.

How We Work
Expert Guides
Our naturalist guides have 20–30 years of field experience in the Danube Delta and Carpathian Mountains. Bilingual (English + Romanian), with deep knowledge of bird identification, mammal behaviour, and delta ecology.
Small Groups
Maximum 20 guests aboard the floating hotel. Wildlife watching is a quiet activity — we keep our groups at a size that allows genuine encounters, not crowded viewpoints.
Responsible Tourism
We operate within the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve's regulations. We never approach sensitive breeding colonies. We use silent electric motors near nesting sites. We employ local guides and support local communities.
The Floating Hotel
Our 4-star vessel has 10 en-suite cabins, a panoramic restaurant and sun deck. Sleeping overnight in the delta channels puts you in the right place at the right time — dawn excursions from the best locations, not from a distant hotel.
