Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 5-day tour differ from the 4-day?
The 5-day tour covers significantly more of the Delta - you reach Sulina and the Black Sea coast, and explore the remote Saint George arm rarely visited on shorter tours. The extra night means more time in remote areas at dawn and dusk, the best times for wildlife. We strongly recommend the 5-day for first-time visitors who have the time.
What wildlife is the Delta famous for?
The Danube Delta is home to 300+ bird species including the Great White Pelican (largest European colony), Dalmatian Pelican, White-tailed Eagle, and 50+ species of waterbirds. You may also encounter otters, wild boar and wild horses on Delta excursions.
Is there phone signal in the Delta?
Signal is available in larger channels and near villages but drops out in remote areas - part of the appeal. Complete disconnection from the digital world. The floating hotel has a satellite phone for emergencies.
What is the food like on the floating hotel?
Traditional Romanian home cooking using local ingredients - fresh Delta fish, vegetable soups, grilled meats, local cheese. Vegetarian and dietary requirements catered for with advance notice. Breakfast is substantial; packed lunches available for long excursions.
Can I combine this with bear watching?
Yes - many guests do exactly this. Join our 5-day Delta cruise first, then continue to the Carpathians for bear watching. Contact us for combined itinerary pricing and logistics - we've been running this combination for years.
What camera equipment is recommended?
A 400 - 600mm telephoto lens is ideal for birds at distance. Bring a sturdy tripod or beanbag for the boat railing. A 100 - 400mm zoom works well for general wildlife. A wide-angle lens captures the dramatic Delta landscapes and skies.
