Floating Hotel in the Danube Delta
Stay aboard the only dedicated wildlife floating hotel in the Danube Delta. 10 double cabins, panoramic lounge, observation deck, full board — and dawn access to remote channels that day-trip visitors cannot reach.
The Ibis Tours floating hotel is a purpose-built vessel designed specifically for wildlife cruises in the Danube Delta. Unlike traditional hotels or shore-based accommodation, the floating hotel positions you in the heart of the biosphere reserve — mooring overnight in remote channels where the only sounds are birdsong and water. It operates from April to October, departing from Tulcea Port. For full vessel specifications and photo gallery, see our main floating hotel page.

Why a Floating Hotel Changes the Experience
The difference between a day trip and a floating hotel cruise is the difference between visiting the delta and living in it. Here's what that means in practice.
Dawn & Dusk in the Delta
You are already on the water at first light — the most productive time for waterbird activity. No early morning drive to a port. No waiting for a day-trip boat. You wake up, step on deck, and you're birding.
Deep Delta Access
The floating hotel navigates to remote channels and lakes that are too far for day-trip boats. This is where the largest pelican colonies, eagle territories and undisturbed heron roosts are located.
Silence & Immersion
Moored overnight in a remote channel, the floating hotel offers a level of immersion in the delta ecosystem that no shore-based accommodation can match. Night sounds include Water Rail, Eurasian Bittern and Little Crake.
Full Board, No Logistics
All meals are freshly prepared on board — including local specialities and Danube fish dishes. No restaurant searches, no meal planning. You focus entirely on wildlife.
Observation Deck
The upper deck provides an elevated vantage point for scanning channels, lakes and reedbeds. Ideal for spotting raptors, herons in flight, and distant pelican flocks. Comfortable seating for extended observation.
Comfort After a Day in the Field
Double cabins with en-suite bathroom, climate control and proper beds. After a full day of birding, photography and boat excursions, you return to genuine comfort — not a tent or a basic cabin.
A Typical Day Aboard the Floating Hotel
Dawn birding from the deck
Early risers scan the channels from the observation deck. Herons, egrets and kingfishers are active. Coffee and tea available.
Breakfast
Full breakfast in the panoramic lounge. Guide briefing on the day's plan and target species.
Morning excursion by small boat
Guided excursion into narrow channels, pelican colonies and lake systems. The small motorboats access areas the floating hotel cannot reach. Peak birdwatching period.
Lunch & rest
Return to the floating hotel for a freshly prepared lunch. Time for rest, photography review, or continued observation from the deck during the heat of the day.
Afternoon excursion
Second guided excursion as the light softens. Often focused on different habitats — flooded forest, reed-fringed lakes, or open water. Excellent photography conditions.
Dinner & species checklist
Dinner on board. Evening species checklist with the guide. Sunset from the deck. Night sounds begin — Bittern, Water Rail, frogs.
What You'll See from the Floating Hotel
Pelican Colonies & Waterbirds
The floating hotel's deep-delta positioning gives access to the major pelican breeding colonies — both Great White Pelican and the globally near-threatened Dalmatian Pelican. Colonies are visited by small boat with ARBDD permits, at distances that do not disturb the birds.
Raptors & Forest Birds
White-tailed Eagle is the delta's apex predator and resident year-round. The floating hotel passes through their territories daily. Marsh and Montagu's Harriers quarter the reedbeds. Red-footed Falcon and Hobby hunt over open areas. Flooded forest excursions add woodpeckers, owls and passerines.
